David Sunday

david1-300x300David is the leader of SorbaraLaw’s Municipal, Land Use & Development Group. He has been designated as a Certified Specialist in Municipal Law: Land Use Planning and Development by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Over many years, David has earned the trust and respect of private and public sector clients in connection with municipal, land use, and development issues. He is frequently consulted on important matters related to residential, commercial, industrial, and public sector land development. Further, David regularly advises clients on both tactical and strategic aspects of land acquisitions, land use controls, municipal approvals, subdivision and condominium issues, heritage matters, title uncertainties, environmental concerns, and expropriation matters.

Where negotiation, mediation, and arbitration have been ineffective or ruled out, David has proven a formidable litigator. He has successfully protected his clients’ interests before the Ontario Municipal Board, the Superior Court, and, on appeal, before the Divisional Court.

David’s clients appreciate his innovative, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to resolving the very real land use problems that inevitably confront municipalities and developers working to meet the constantly changing needs of Ontarians.

David is a member of the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations (Municipal Law and Real Property Law Sections), the Ontario Expropriation Association, and the International Right of Way Association. He also chairs the Regional and Municipal Affairs Committee of the Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce.
